How can I make Atari music?
I love the buzzy and square sounds of the old atari games like Pitfall. I know about the Synthcart program but there isnt enough variation control! Is there some way to make those sounds into an instrument, either through my casio keyboard or my computer keyboard?
Get some chiptracking software. You can create your own sounds entirely from scratch, edit existing ones or load samples. Here’s a list of good ones, most of which are free.

They’re designed exclusively for making 8 bit music. I use Milky Tracker. It looks pretty basic (like old Atari software) but it’s very flexible. Here’s a very useful manual for it, should you decide to pick that one.

If you’re using a program like Fruity Loops or anything else than can handle VST’s on your computer, here’s a great list of free plugins, all of which are capable of producing old skool sounds.

If you aren’t currently using any music software on your computer, chiptracking would be the best way to get started.
